Core Counselling - discover your true self

Rhonda Byrne’s “The Secret” has generated continual interest in the law of attraction and the ability to manifest. However, even before this trend, the concept of ‘mind over matter’ existed.

Buddha stated, “All that we are is a result of what we have thought.” Marcus Aurelius Antoninus noted, “Our life is what our thoughts make it.” How does this phenomenon of manifesting occur?

In his book, “The Act of Will,” Dr. Roberto Assagioli explained, “Images and mental pictures and ideas tend to produce the physical conditions and the external acts that correspond to them.” He suggested that the Universe (or Higher Power or God or whatever) provides the external circumstances according to what we are thinking or imagining. What we think is what we get.

Jung went deeper by saying, “Psychology is destiny.” Depth psychology suggests that what emerges externally in the form of body symptoms, relationships and patterns of behaviour results not from our mere thoughts, but from deeper unconscious forces from our psyche.

The psyche is the core level of our being and what happens there is often reflected externally. This parallelism or mirroring of inner belief and outer happening is described in the alchemical motto, “As above, so below.” It also appears during synchronistic events (see additional post).

We can think all we want about making a certain change in our lives; yet, if there is some underlying unconscious doubt or opposing belief to this desired change (e.g., ‘I don’t really deserve it’ or ‘I can’t do this.’), then there exists a discord between what ego wants and what psyche believes. We will not get what we (our egos) want; rather, we get what psyche truly believes.

Intention and feelings also play a huge part in what we hope for and desire. For example, we can manifest a new job based upon ego’s fears of not having enough money or security, or desiring a certain level of social status. Alternatively, we can manifest a new job in which we feel respected and content, uses our best abilities and provides enough money for our needs.

Wayne Dyer claims, “You have the power within you to attract to yourself all that you could ever want.” However, there is wisdom in the saying, “Be careful what you ask for.” The key is to hold a level of consciousness that resonates at a positive energy level.

David D. Hawkins, in the book, “Power vs. Force,” suggests the level of consciousness, the life view, as well as emotions, determine the alignment of our outer experiences. Life views of completeness, harmony and satisfaction are desired over disappointment, hopelessness and demanding views.

Be aware of your true feelings when making decisions. Consciously manifest when you are grounded in feelings of courage, serenity, optimism, acceptance, trust and love versus fear, guilt, regret or anger. Begin testing your manifesting with simple daily ones. Who knows what the Universe will return?
